Singapore Trip 2023

Last June 19-23, 2023, I attended the Asia-Pacific Coral Reef Symposium (APCRS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). This symposium, held every two years, shares recent advancements and findings in coral reef science. Scientists, researchers, and other stakeholders participate in this event.

I was fortunate to be generously funded by Dr. Pinsky of Rutgers University through an existing memorandum of agreement for cooperation with VSU. The sponsorship included airfare, accommodation, and registration, while VSU shouldered the local travel and per diem. Details of the APCRS conference are in another post.

Before the trip to Singapore, I already stayed in Cebu City. Rutgers staff booked Scoot for the trip to Singapore (via Mactan-Cebu International Airport) and Singapore Airlines (via Changi) for the return flight. I arrived at around 2 p.m. and went to NUS via taxi. I was housed at Tembusu College, one of the student dorms at NUS University Town (UTown). I chose to stay on campus to get a “feel” of student life at NUS. It was as if I had re-lived my MSc life at both VUB and Ghent University.
