Deep work is important, rare and valuable.
Deep work is defined as the ability of one to do professional activities in a state of distraction-free concentration. In contrast, shallow work is non-cognitively demanding logistical-style task, and is usually done while distracted.
Historically, this was done by influential people and thinkers by literally isolating themselves, e.g., the psychologist Carl Jung, who ‘locked himself’ in a tower near Lake Lucerne to work on something for extended periods, without interruptions and disruptions.
